Twitter isn’t
completely full of crap; maybe just 97.3%.
But today the Washington
Post’s Gene Weingarten retweeted this photo taken by Time magazine’s International Picture Editor, Patrick Witty.
Witty was in the
street on the morning of 11 September 2001 watching the horror at the World
Trade Center. As the South Tower collapsed, he turned around and captured these
extraordinary faces.
Weingarten commented,
“Daring impulse to turn around and get the photo no one else would have.”
And Witty replied, “I
turned around because I couldn’t bear watching bodies fall. It’s a
self-portrait in many ways.”
And so it is.
