It’s Gratitude Monday; I’m so thankful for the men and women who have served in our armed forces—past, present and future.
Americans have an uneasy relationship with the military;
we don’t like standing armies. In general, we pay our combat services crap, we
treat them like potential criminals and we would prefer to pretend we don’t
need them. We ask everything of them and their families.
Then we send them out to do the most ghastly jobs
imaginable on our behalf.
And they do their duty.
