I picked up a holiday card
yesterday at work. It was signed personally by our CEO, which is fine.
But it also had my name in his
handwriting, along with the message, “Happy to have you at [place of
employment].”
I have to say that, in this
age of surveillance by everyone from the NSA to Facebook, this is just the
tiniest bit disconcerting.
I guess if he just made one
pass writing the “Happy to have you” message and signing his name 500 times,
and then another pass adding name after name from a list of all employees, that
would be okay.
What does this say about me, though?
What does it say about you? It makes one wonder what corporate experiences might have accounted for this, um, hyper reaction to a common, well-meant executive action. And how do you know that he wrote this on all the greetings? What might you be missing if this were an exception and he really is aware that [.....] has hired the unpolished, many-faceted, sharp-edged diamond that you are?
